|
|
Alright so i just jumped in a pool i thought was about 5 feet deep and found myself in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. thats about where i am.
i purchased a virtual dedicated server and was trying to host my website from it. I already have an Ip name registered from godaddy and it is currently being hosted on the Shared hosting windows plan. I have CentOS and a regular Cpanel. Vainly from messing around with it and some other threads i pulled from around the internet i have managed to figure out how to upload files to my IP adress that comes with the server. I think now i need to set up a DNS. (might be doing the totaly wrong thing though so correct me if this is not what i should be doing)
And basicaly godddy support screwed me over. apperintly you arent supposed to buy this service unless you have IT experience and for that reason they are not giving ANY support (literaly the guys on support line wont even talk about it they just say sorry cant help and ask if theres anything else.) unless you pay 50 bucks more.
currently i already have the domain registered on my server ( i think ) it apears under domains on the server cpanel.
Now i have a few quesions.
the way i see it the nameservers and a record derive where a site is being hosted from? correct?
so all i would need to do is change the domain name servers. and the "a record" (its an ip address im not sure if a record is the right name.)
so all i should need do do is change the ip address the website is currently being hosted at to the servers ip address?
and then change the DNS to the name-servers i have created on MY virtual server?
the only problem with that is that when i go to edit the DNS settings for my website in my virtual servers control panel i only see one thing that looks like a DNS witch is "primary name server" i am guessing this is a master DNS?
and then i am guessing in order to run the Domain name from this i need exactly 1 master and 1 slave DNS?
If so anyone know where i get the slave server info? or if i even have it and if i dont where i make it? ____________________
